I remember my host mother in the Netherlands making hutspot and gehakt often for dinner, with a gravy made from the meatballs, and something made me want to try it again. The hutspot is onions, carrots, and potatoes, mashed with salt, pepper, and butter. For the gehakt I made meatballs with spices, soy sauce, tomato sauce, and a onion soup mix, and I rolled them in corn flake crumbs and fried them. Then I deglazed the pan and made a gravy that was very rich and tasty.
